Understanding Opt-In Consent
Olivine follows TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act) guidelines for SMS.
Why Opt-In Is Required
- Legal requirement: TCPA requires explicit consent for business texts
- Best practice: Ensures crew wants to receive messages
- Opt-out protection: Crew can stop messages anytime
The Opt-In Flow
1. You add a crew member with their phone number
2. They receive: "Reply YES to opt in to [Production Name]"
3. They reply YES (or equivalent)
4. Status changes from Pending to Opted In
5. They can now submit receipts
Valid Opt-In Responses
These are accepted as consent:
- YES, Y, Yeah, Yep
- OK, Okay
- I agree, Agree
Opt-Out
Crew can text STOP at any time:
- Immediately stops all messages
- Status changes to "Opted Out"
- They can text START to re-subscribe
What If Someone Doesn't Opt In?
- They won't be able to submit receipts via SMS
- You can resend the opt-in request
- Consider confirming their phone number
- Some carriers block short codes—try a different number
